VinFast vs Indian EV Makers: A Price & Feature ComparisonVinFast vs Indian EV Makers: A Price & Feature Comparison

Summary

VinFast has entered the Indian EV segment with VF6 and VF7 eSUVs, which are assembled in India. With their aggressive pricing, the direct competition is with domestic leaders like Tata and Mahindra. Premium performance, advanced features and 5-star safety ratings are some of their key offerings. VinFast is focused on customer satisfaction and long-term goals that stretch beyond just electric cars.

As India’s EV landscape unfolds and takes shape, several foreign brands are showing keen interest in capitalising on the rising demand. VinFast is a player that has recently entered the Indian market after doing its homework. With their two signature models, the VF6 and VF7 SUVs, VinFast is aiming to offer not just EVs but the whole ecosystem for it.

Let us examine the EV four-wheeler offerings from VinFast and how they fare against the domestic brands and the other global brands in India.

About VinFast’s India Entry

VinFast is a Vietnamese EV manufacturer under the VinGroup. They are aggressively expanding in the Indian EV market with two key eSUV offerings and a scheduled domestic manufacturing plant. They entered the market earlier last year and launched the VF6 and VF7 eSUVs. Both these EVs are assembled locally, at Tamil Nadu’s Thoothukudi Plant.

Entering the Indian EV market while capitalising on the premium yet affordable SUV segment is a wise move on the automaker’s part. Both these cars are placed well in terms of pricing and performance, and compare well against the popular alternatives. Although they are new to the market, you can easily secure electric car insurance for VinFast eSUVs online and offline.

VinFast: Key Points of Comparison

With the pricing and basic features compared, let’s take a look at what the VinFast EVs bring to the table in terms of technology, features and performance;

1. Pricing:

VinFast nailed the pricing of both the VF6 and VF7. They are aggressively priced, appealing to the premium yet affordable segment of the Indian EV market. Tata’s Nexon, Curvv and Harrier EVs, Mahindra’s BE 6, and XEV 9e and Hyundai’s Creta Electric are its main competitors.
Even so, the VinFast pricing undercuts some of the mid to top variants from Mahindra and Tata’s lineup.

2. Range:

Both the VinFast EVs claim a respectable range of 400-500+ km on a single charge. Although slightly less than the competitors in both fronts, these EVs are a great option for most car owners in India.

These figures eradicate range anxiety for most purposes. To reduce worries about unwanted damages/losses while you are on the road, invest in car insurance for your VinFast EV. Consider comprehensive insurance for its own exhaustive damage and third-party liability coverage.

3. Charging infrastructure:

While Tata and Mahindra already have a well-established and actively expanding public fast charging network in India, VinFast is steadily working on developing its own. V-Green, which is VinFast’s charging arm, recently partnered up with HPCL to integrate EV chargers into fuel stations across India.

4. Power and performance:

Available in 6 colours, the compact, 5-seater eSUV, VF6, offers a maximum power of 130 kW, maximum torque of 250 Nm and a 0-100 km/h acceleration in 9.12 seconds. In comparison, the Tata Nexon EV has a maximum power of 106 kW, maximum torque of 215 Nm and a 0-100 km/h acceleration in 8.9 seconds.

The stylish and sporty VF7 top variants offer a maximum power of 260 kW, maximum torque of 500 Nm and a 0-100 km/h acceleration in 5.8 seconds. In comparison, the Mahindra BE 6 has a maximum power of 210 kW maximum torque of 380 Nm and 0-100 km/h acceleration in 6.7 seconds.

5. Features:

The VF6 is packed with tons of advanced features that make it competitive in its price range. It comes with full-LED lighting, coloured HUD, 360-degree camera, 7 airbags, traction control, ADAS Level 2 and much more.

The VF7 features an 8-way power adjustable driver’s seat, coloured HUD, 12.9-inch touch-enabled infotainment system, dual-zone climate control, auto-dimming IRVM, ADAS level 2 and much more.

6. Safety:

Both the VinFast VF6 and VF7 have a Bharat NCAP safety rating of 5 stars. This has become a key consideration for customers in this price segment.

While on the topic of safety, make sure to get your car covered with at least third party car insurance to stay protected against third-party liabilities.

Conclusion

VinFast has made a major impact upon its entry into the Indian EV market. It is balancing aggressive pricing with top-of-the-line performance, premium features and 5-star safety. The Vietnamese automaker is focused on the long-term, working on customer satisfaction and ecosystem expansion.

In the coming years, it will be interesting to see how VinFast fits in the Indian EV landscape while competing against domestic giants.
